Evan J. Smith, 39, is the Editor for Muscle
Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine, the leading late-model Mustang
publication with a circulation over 200,000 per month.
He has been working as an automotive journalist since 1992 and
has been on staff with MM&FF since 1994.
Evan lives and breathes
automobiles, and when not working on Muscle Mustangs or writing
his bi-weekly column for the NHRA's National DRAGSTER,
he competes in the NHRA Drag Racing series in the Stock Eliminator
category. His current racecar is a 1993 Cobra Mustang,
with which he has won Class Eliminations 14 times at various
tracks from Englishtown to Indianapolis Raceway Park. This includes
three Class wins at the popular Mac Tools U.S. Nationals held
each year at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Additionally, Evan has
set 12 NHRA national records.
Evan also competes
in NHRA Junior Stock, a heads-up category for Stock Eliminator
racecars and has scored two recent wins, both at Maple Grove
Raceway near Reading, Pennsylvania.
For 2008 Evan will
debut a 2007 Shelby GT500 in NHRA Super Stock. The car
will run in the popular SS/A, SS/B class where it will compete
against classic muscle cars such as HEMI-powered Mopars, 427
Corvettes and 427 Ford Thunderbolts.

2001 Dodge Viper RT-10 (11.77/122 mph); 2004 ZO6 Corvette (12.04/118
mph); 1995 Cobra R (12.92/105 mph); 2000 Cobra R (12.42/112 mph);
2003 Cobra (12.43/113 mph); 2005 Ford GT (10.98/129 mph); 2007
ZO6 Corvette (11.22/126 mph); and most recently the 2007 Shelby
GT500 (12.25/117 mph) and the limited edition 2007 Roush Drag
Pak Mustang (11.91/115 mph).
- In 1997 Evan Smith became the first NHRA racer to set
a national record with a "late-model" fuel-injected
Mustang, setting the L/S record at 12.04/110 mph).
- Evan was the first Stock Eliminator with a 302 Ford
to break the 10-second barrier when he ran 10.92 with his '93
Cobra in 2006.
- Evan worked at the famous Englishtown Raceway Park for
six years while attending Montclair State University.
