Evan Smith

Evan goes wheels up with his 1993 Cobra. The Ford is powered by a Jim Kuntz-built 302 with Kook's headers and is backed by a McLeod clutch, G-Force Racing five-speed transmission and a Strange 9-inch Ford rear end. The Mustang runs on Mickey Thompson tires, Moroso springs and normally goes 1.40 60-foot times. The Cobra makes approximately 370 horsepower at the wheels and has turned a best e.t. of 10.78 at 122 mph. Evan runs the Mustang in NHRA Stock Eliminator in the D/FI and the Junior Stock catagories.
 

 
John "JB" Bender
JB plants the tires hard in his 1967 Plymouth GTX, which his wife Peggy (and then girlfriend), purchased new while he was serving in the Navy during Vietnam. In addition to being Evan's father-in-law, JB is a retired fire captain of the Linden Fire Department in Linden, New Jersey and has run a best e.t. of 10.88 at 119 mph. His Mopar is motivated by a Bub Whitaker-built 440-inch powerplant with a single four-barrel carburetor. It is factory rated at 375 horsepower and fits in the E/SA class.
 
 

 
Frank Bialas
Frank "Biggs" Bialas terrorizes dragstrips with his high-flying '70 Plymouth GTX that is currently undergoing a complete restoration at Wayne's Auto Body in South Amboy, New Jersey. NHRA Super Street racer Tommy Dee and his son Chris are handling the paint and bodywork. The GTX runs in C/SA and packs a Whitaker 440 Six-Barrel engine. The factory-rated 390-hp engine pushed the 3,900-pound Plymouth into the 10.50s at 126 mph. By day Bialas is a fire captain in the Elizabeth, New Jersey Fire Department.
 

 
Russell Wernes
Russ "Rusty Furnace" Wernes is the team's mechanic, starting line chief, and head chef. In addition to finding the best spots for traction on the starting line, he strives to prepare quality meals between rounds of racing and after the action has concluded. Russ can fix just about anything and is retired from his term at the Elizabeth Gas Company.
 

 
Stan Giermanski
Stan Giermanski pounds the pavement with this G/SA '68 Camaro with a 327 engine and a Powerglide transmission. The engine is a Whitaker piece that has pushed the Camaro to a Number One qualifying spot and many round wins. Stan is a retired body man who is constantly on the hunt for performance.
 

 
Dennis Petras

Dennis Petras wheels one mean four-speed '69 Camaro in H/S and is a former NHRA national record holder. His Chevy sports a 350 engine built by Bub Whitaker and it runs in the low 11s. Dennis is currently rebuilding the Camaro with a new front-end and then it will be painted by Sano's Auto Body in Dayton, New Jersey.
